1974: The last day of Wolverhampton Market

“The market pictures break down into two sections - the first where it was in the last few days of trading, and the subsequent demolition a week or so later.

“The working market pictures entailed a very early start (for a student!) I think I had to be there about 06.00. It was quite hard to shoot in the light available, some of the negs were a bit underexposed.

“The demolition was over and done in a short time. These days a lot of the detailed railings and ironwork would have been saved by a reclamation company and sold on at a big profit, but I would guess at the time they would have just gone for scrap.”
