1960s/70s: Young Soviet Lithuanians


Lithuanian photographer Antanas Sutkus (born 1939) has received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts and the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas. Photographing Lithuania during the Soviet period, he saw his camera as and work "a weapon for the underground". The Soviet committee denounced Sutkus as "photography's Solzhenitsyn".
