1978: Les Miserables’ made-for-TV movie

Victor Hugo’s 1862 French historical novel Les Miserables has been adapted as a musical, at least six films, a radio play, a manga cartoon, a game and, in 1978, a made-for-TV movie on CBS. The CBS movie was a ratings success, and beat the then-leading hit show, Charlie’s Angels.
