James Thomas Naulls was a fisherman by trade plying his occupation from the vibrant Barking wharves during the early/mid 19th century. He fished in waters as far away as Iceland sometimes for 6 months at a time for the Short Blue Fleet which was then operating from Barking. As the industry declined in Barking the business moved north to Gorleston, Norfolk and then later on to Grimsby, Lincolnshire which is where much of the family moved to after the demise in Barking. This picture was taken c.1870 at the wharves in Barking or Grimsby.
