This is my great-grandmother’s photo scrapbook from the late 1920s. The actual scrapbook has over 100 pages of photographs of her and her friends. They were in high school at this time. I am constantly amazed at how incredibly modern everything is. There are risqué jokes, poses that would look appropriate on instagram, and teenage emotions so familiar it’s almost painful.
Johanna, my great grandmother, is the one with Mary Pickford sausage-curls (I don’t think she was allowed to “bob” her hair). I absolutely love her captions — she had a fantastic sense of humor and is quite playful & witty throughout all of her scrapbooks.
