These are just a few of the dioramas designed by Clarence Tillenius for the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. Generations of kids have grown up looking at these frozen vignettes of long-dead wildlife. (This kind of display was once a common way to “preserve” nature for public view.) The dioramas were carefully restored during the overhaul of the museum from 2004-2010. Clarence Tillenius died in January of this year (2012) at the age of 98.
