Reply Red Cardinal August 1, 2012 Big Daddy ahoy! Reply Bill August 2, 2012 This is strangely beautiful. I wonder if this design was ever actually used. Reply Jim August 2, 2012 Looks like it was built more to protect against sea monsters than high pressure water. Reply Paul August 2, 2012 Not all that far removed (conceptually) from what we use now: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Training_with_a_Atmospheric_Dive_Suit.jpg Reply Steve August 3, 2012 Presuming “Carmagnolle” was the name of the designer, I checked to see if there was a corresponding US patent for this suit. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Such a document might have given more details about how this suit works. Like, as one very small example, what exactly is the purpose of that hook on the backside of the glove? Reply Jon August 3, 2012 Chocolates is better than grapes Mr. Bubbles!!! Reply John August 4, 2012 Bioshock-esque, and also a bit of BPRD “Garden of Souls.” Reply Critical Mass August 6, 2012 Machine-translated French patent (and more pictures & info) here: http://www.divingheritage.com/armored2.htm Reply Michael August 6, 2012 Can you say “claustrophobia”? Reply jonathan_reiter January 5, 2013 That’s the elbow joints, Kira. They’re necessary if you need to bend your arms while on a working dive… ReplyReport user Gene October 7, 2012 Early version of “Robbie” the robot!
